Americans for Prosperity-Kansas welcomes Governor’s efforts to reduce waste in government spending

AFP-KS chapter responds to calls for more efficiency in Kansas government

In addition to increasing efficiency in state government, the Kansas chapter of Americans for Prosperity would like the Governor and Lieutenant Governor to commit to limiting how much taxpayer dollars they’re willing to spend in the 2008 legislative session.

“Efforts to reduce government waste are to be commended, however we would really like to see a budget proposal that would limit spending increases altogether,” said AFP-KS State Director Alan Cobb. “Let’s just stop spending so much money.”

The Governor will be releasing her own budget proposal to the Legislature later this month, which will reveal her administration’s commitment to making the Kansas government do more with less.

Americans for Prosperity is finalizing a model state budget that will limit budget growth to 3.5 percent, which still allows the state general fund to increase by more than $200 million. AFP-KS plans to present its budget proposal to the Governor and the Legislature within the next few weeks.

“We welcome the fact that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor recognize the state is spending too much money,” said Cobb. “Now let’s hold them – and our other elected officials – accountable for these promises to cut waste and increase efficiency.”
