House Republican Caucus unveils fiscally responsible legislative agenda for 2008 session
Americans for Prosperity-Kansas encouraged by proposals

The grassroots group Americans for Prosperity-Kansas is encouraged by the legislative proposals announced today by the House Republican Caucus.

“We’re pleased to see the House Republican Caucus’ commitment to limiting spending growth,” said AFP-KS State Director Alan Cobb. “Limiting state spending growth to five percent is a great start, and we look forward to working with House members to see if we can do even better.”

The proposal includes developing a budget stabilization fund, which Cobb said is a positive step toward cleaning up the budget process. Lawmakers also plan to address taxpayer funded lobbying reform.

“Shining a light on taxpayer funded lobbying is key,” said Cobb. “This proposal is another example of trying to pull back the curtain on how taxpayer money is actually being spent.”

Under the proposal, a uniform budgeting and reporting system would be established for all Kansas school districts to enhance government transparency.

“It’s a step in the right direction to set up uniform budgeting for Kansas schools,” said Cobb. “It’s helpful when citizens can better understand exactly how their money is being spent.”
