Kansas Author Publishes Third Book
Kansas author D. Susan Rutz presents her third book; a historical fiction based on life in the 1800’s mid-west and publishes it on Lulu.com, the online marketplace for digital content.
Ms. Rutz interweaves her life story of a Virginia born girl who marries a marine stationed at Quantico, Virginia and is quickly swept away to live in another world across the country. In this 244 page book Ms. Rutz transposes her feelings of such a journey into her characters.
Emily McDowell is a wealthy Virginia debutante living in Alexandria when the city was still part of Washington D.C. She falls in love with a young officer from West Point headed for Ft. Scott Kansas on one of the first wagon trains west. Her journey changes her from a young lady accustomed to tea parties into a pioneer and a military wife.
Ms. Rutz skillfully leads the reader along the long and tedious journey to the west allowing her characters to grow and change within the parameters of the story by experiencing the pain involved with leaving everything you know and love thousands of miles behind.
Ms. Rutz says: “The setting was never in question. I have a strong love of history and my new home, Kansas. Combining the two was the only choice and publishing with Lulu was as easy a choice to make. I am very proud of this story and thanks to Lulu I am able to present it with pride.”
