>WESTAR CO-SPONSORS INSTITUTE FOR ELECTRIC EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency is one of the best ways to meet growing consumer demand for electricity.
Westar Energy announced it is a co-sponsor of the
Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) Institute for Electric Efficiency. The Institute was established in
2007 as a national resource of information and innovation for electric utilities and their
customers, as well as energy policymakers. Westar’s sponsorship in the Institute will be a useful
tool for educating consumers as usage of electricity continues to increase in Kansas and across
the United States.
“Energy efficiency should become a way of life, and we want our customers to see us as
a valuable source of energy efficiency ideas and services,” said Jim Ludwig, executive vice
president, public affairs and consumer services. “Our sponsorship in the Institute is a part of our
commitment to our customers and our environment.”
As the number of consumers grows and they find more new ways to use electricity in an
expanding digital economy, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates they will drive electricity
consumption to grow at least 40 percent in the next 25 years. Energy efficiency will be a key
component in meeting the rising consumer demand while also minimizing the potential
environmental impact. The Institute will connect electric utilities – allowing for a constant flow
of ideas and practices.
“We are delighted that Westar Energy will be actively participating in the work of the
Institute for Electric Efficiency,” said EEI president Tom Kuhn. “It is a strong indication of their
commitment to energy efficiency as our industry accelerates its efforts to become more efficient
and equip customers with the tools to manage their energy use. The success of the Institute will
rely on the contributions of companies such as Westar, and we are grateful for their support.”
