The Nature Conservancy Applauds Westar Energy’s Announcement Today That It Plans To Integrate 300 Megawatts Of Wind Energy Into Its System The attraction of wind energy is the promise of electric power without the associated release of undesirable air emissions. That promise, however, can be substantially undermined by a poorly selected location that negatively impacts essential wildlife habitat, highly valued scenic views, or important cultural or historic sites. The Nature Conservancy has been pleased to assist Westar Energy with review of prospective wind energy projects as to their potential for negative environmental impacts. We have been tremendously impressed with Westar officials’ commitment to seeking projects that are not only right for their shareholders but positive for all the people of Kansas.
