eight-year-old girl works dispurses monies raised
special ceremony on Saturday to present checks to charities
The unforgettable Jaide Ramirez-Jennings is back to spread the money she raised to local charities.
In May 2007, Ramirez-Jennings was awarded Yahoo!’s Purple Act of Kindness, a monthly program run by Yahoo! which exposes and supports unexpected acts kindness acts. Yahoo! donated 900 Yahoo!-branded reusable shopping bags to Jaide’s non-profit she started at the tender age of 6. She has now sold nearly all the bags and is ready to cut checks to some of her favorite local non-profits.
Jaide is again spreading the love in the community and donating it to an array of different social service organizations who will be receiving a check on Saturday, including:
Keep America Beautiful
- YWCA Battered Women Task Force
- The Topeka Rescue Mission
- The American Heart Association
- Topeka School Fund, USD 501
At just eight years old, this isn’t the first time Jaide has made headlines giving to others. Earlier this year she donated new stuffed animals for Stormont Vail Hospital and St. Francis Hospital in a program called Cuddles for Comfort. The toys are given to children post surgery so they have something soft and comfortable to hold.
Jaide was honored at age six with the Distinguished Kansan of the Year for Youth award. Early that year she raised money for the December 2004 Tsunami, collected 9,000 pennies to help convert a baseball diamond for handicapped kids and donated 50 teddy bears to kids of the Topeka Rescue Mission.
For more information on Jaide or her extensive background of giving come for the event at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library on Oct. 6 at 10:30 am. Media is invited.
