LAST MINUTE FOLK CONCERT SERIES presents ~ COSY SHERIDAN with T.R. RITCHIE ~

SATURDAY, OCTOCER 27,  2007,  7:30 pm

Last Minute Folk Concert Series in Topeka continues its fall series “Women of Folk: the Songstress Series” featuring contemporary folk singer songwriters COSY SHERIDAN and TR RITCHIE. COSY returns to the venue after appearing in 2005.

Mythic songwriter COSY SHERIDAN and her wryly insightful songs have been showcased everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Dr. Demento Show. In her new CD “Live at CedarHouse”, listeners can sample her live performances and see why Acoustic Guitar Magazine wrote, “If I were going to throw an all-girl dinner party at which I wanted to laugh and cry from the hors d’oeuvres to the chocolate pudding, Cosy Sheridan is the first woman I’d invite.”

TR Ritchie is a former fire lookout, helitack fire fighter, graphic artist, photographer, carpenter and cook turned award-winning songwriter and national touring artist. TR writes and performs music steeped in traditional folk, blues, swing and ragtime influences, with a heavy emphasis on lyric content. "He tells you of his life," says fellow songwriter Tom Dundee, "and in doing so you learn something more about your own".

A graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, COSY first appeared on the national folk scene in 1992 when she won the songwriters contests at the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Since then she tours constantly while based in Moab, Utah and has released 6 albums to date on the Waterbug and Wind River / Folk Era labels. In 2003 she created the one-woman show, The Pomegranate Seed – An Exploration of Appetite, Body Image and Myth in Modern Culture, which she performs around the country at colleges, high schools and benefits for women’s issues. In 2005 she spent six weeks writing a song cycle for best-selling author Robert Fulghum’s latest book, Third Wish.

Her national reputation as a songwriting instructor has led her to faculty positions at The Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina , Summersongs in New York and the California Coast Music Camp.

Cosy’s been described as “A very funny and enormously amiable entertainer, with a keen and wicked eye for the excesses of our fast-food, tv-happy and noisome culture.”
