Tourism Development Fund Board will hear grant applicant presentations, October 15

The Tourism Development Fund Board of Directors will hear presentations supporting the 2008 Tourism Development Fund grant applications at 2 p.m., Monday, October 15 at Visit Topeka Inc. The meeting is open to the public, and Visit Topeka Inc. is located at 1275 SW Topeka Blvd. 

Funding request presentations will be made by 12 organizations who applied and qualified for transient guest tax funding as part of the city of Topeka's 2008 budget planning process.  The following organizations have qualified and will present October 15:  Heartland Park Topeka, Topeka Performing Arts Center, The Kansas Expocentre, Sunflower State Games, USA Wrestling, Coleman Hawkins Jazz Festival, Combat Air Museum, Fiesta Mexicana, Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council, Governors Cup Soccer, El Centro and the United Rodeo Association.  No additional applications are being accepted for 2008 funding. 

The Tourism Development Fund Board will consider the presentations made at this meeting and will make recommendations for 2008 funding. Their recommendations will be forwarded to a three member City Council committee for approval or rejection.  If the board’s recommendations are approved by the City Council committee, the city manager will then have the authority to dispense the funds as recommended by the Tourism Development Fund Board. 

The nine member Tourism Development Fund Board is comprised of five members of the Visit Topeka Inc. Board of Directors and representatives from the City Council, Topeka Lodging Association., Topeka Tourism Alliance, and the Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council.
