Jason's Deli Ribbon Cutting

Jason's Deli began making sandwiches and history in 1976, when Joe Tortorice Jr. opened the first deli at Gateway Shopping City in Beaumont, Texas.  Three years later, the second Jason’s Deli opened in Port Arthur, Texas.  Tyler, Texas was the home of the first expansion deli, followed by delis in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.  In 1986, Deli Management, Inc. was founded by partners Tortorice, Rusty Coco, Pete Verde and Pat Broussard and in 1988, the first of many franchise locations opened in Tucson, Arizona.  The first of two deli distribution centers was introduced in 2000.

The first Jason’s Deli in Topeka opened on April 30.  It is part of the Lunch Mony franchise group owned by Kirk Jefferies. Steven Potter is the General Manager.  The deli restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 6121 SW 12th St.

There are currently 170 deli locations in 22 states from Virginia to Nevada.  Delis average 4,800 square feet in size with seating for 180.

Jason’s specialty is food for all tastes and catering for all occasions.  Constant favorites are the Famous Salad Bar, junior meals, Jason’s own recipe soups and New Orleans muffalettas.  Newer items include Wrapini sandwiches and pastas.  Jason’s insists on the highest quality ingredients for improved taste and healthy benefits of everything it serves.  Free ice cream for all dining guests is a popular Jason’s tradition. Jason’s Deli offers family-friendly dining, take out and delivery from deli restaurants that will soon reach coast-to-coast.

Jason’s Deli won Restaurants & Institutions’ 2007 and 2006 Consumers’ Choice in Chains Gold Award in the sandwich segment, and the 2005 Platinum Award. In April 2005, Jason’s made national news by eliminating partially hydrogenated oil from its entire menu, one of the first restaurant chains to achieve the healthy goal of becoming artificial trans fat-free.  In July of this year, the company opened its first smaller ‘neighborhood deli’ in Flower Mound, Texas.

Last year Jason’s Deli celebrated “30 ‘deli’cious years” at all locations, including the original Beaumont deli.
