Memorial Service for Victims of Omaha, Nebraska Mall Shooting

Bias Busters of Kansas & The Stop the Violence Memorial Committee will hold a Candlelight Vigil & Memorial Service on Monday, December 10, 2007, at 6:00pm on the Eastside of the Kansas State Capitol Grounds at the Martin Luther King Memorial Tree. The vigil is scheduled on this date to coincide with the annual celebration of International Human Rights Day occurring on December 10, 2007.

Members of Bias Busters and Stop the Violence Memorial Committee ask that all caring and sympathetic members of the general public and the world to pray for the citizens of Omaha during their time of distress. As a nation, we must recognize that it is time for us to take a stand on unnecessary violence rather than stand by and shake our heads at the devastation left behind when lives are lost to senseless violence.

According to news reports, the shootings in Omaha were carried out by a single gunman who was mentally and emotionally ill. As a nation, this situation and others shine a very bright light on the plight of the mentally ill. With the constant increases in the price of healthcare and prescription drugs, some of these individuals cannot afford to pay for the proper care even if they wanted to get help. It is up to us as caring law-abiding people to pay attention to our relatives and friends when their behavior is erratic and act accordingly so the people of Omaha and other cities and countries won't have to experience a nightmare such as this again.

All are invited to attend, provide words of comfort and prayer.

Sincerely,

Sonny Scroggins
