Target Distribution Center Donates to the YWCA of Topeka

In the spirit of holiday giving, Target donates to aid programs for the YWCA of Topeka.

On Wed., December 12, Target representatives will present a check for $1000 to the YWCA Battered Women Task Force and Early Learning Center at 9:30 am in the YWCA dining room.

The BWTF provides support and services for women in domestic violence and sexual assault crisis. During the holiday season, needs rise as the BWTF provides a unique holiday store for women and their children served throughout the past year by the organization.

The preschool program, the ELC, accepts an unlimited number of SRS students in its work to provide a premier learning environment for children ages 2 1/2 through school age.

"Our focus areas of giving reflect the interests of Target team members and our guests and include education, the arts and social services," said Lee Davis, general manager of the Target Distribution Center. "This donation is earmarked for the Early Learning Center and Battered Women Task Force to help members of the community during this holiday season."

Target has a strong commitment to its community and contributes more than $3 million dollars a week to local communities across the country through grants and special programs.

"It is because of the generous support of businesses and members of our community we can continue the great work that we do," said Jamie Kennedy, Marketing Manager for the YWCA. "Our mission at the YWCA is to eliminate racism and empower women and it is through programs such as our Early Learning Center and Battered Women Task Force we can move forward and make a difference right here at home."

The donation will be presented by Target to the YWCA and representatives of the BWTF and ELC during a news conference on Wed., December 12 at 9:30 am in the YWCA dining room at 225 SW 12th Street. The media is invited to attend.
