Albert Guardado, Olympic gold medal boxer, returns to his alma mater, Washburn, to speak about his "Olympic Dream"
Albert Guardado Jr., 1996 Olympic gold medal boxer and Washburn alumnus, will speak about his "Olympic Dream" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in the Kansas Room, Memorial Union, Washburn University. The event is free and open to the public. Film footage of his winning fight, his gold medal, and his boxing belt will be shown.
In 1997, the Washburn Student Government Association commissioned Greg Inkmann to create a sculpture titled “Passages” in honor of Guardado’s accomplishment. The sculpture is located on the lower level, Memorial Union, near the Washburn Student Government Association office.
